  • Open Dreamweaver
  • Choose Site | New Site
  • Choose Local Info category
  • Site Name: Site
  • Local Root Folder:
    Click the folder icon to select the SSC_Site found inside the Site folder on the Desktop
  • Click Select
  • Click OK
  • Select Remote Info category
  • Access: WebDAV
  • URL:
    https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/groups/wds/SSC_Site/
  • Login: Your Net ID
  • Password: Your NetID Password
  • Click Test to verify connection settings
  • Check Enable File Check In and Check Out box
  • In Check Out Name box, enter your name
  • in Email Address box, enter your email address
  • Click File View Column category
  • Choose Checked Out By field
  • Click the Show box.
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Click Done

  • In the Site window, click the Expand/Collapse icon
  • Click the Refresh icon
  • Select a file on the server and click the Check Out icon
  • When asked to include dependent files, chose Yes
  • Notice that a check is placed next to the file along with your Check Out Name.
  • Select the file again and click the Check In icon.
  • When asked to include dependent files, choose Yes

 

exercise two : folder / file management

  • Choose Site | New Site
  • Choose Local Info category
  • Site Name: Manage
  • Local Root Folder:
    Click the folder icon to select the SSC_Site found inside the Manage folder on the Desktop
  • Click Select
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Click Done
  • Delete site.htm from the site
  • Dreamweaver will scan the site and determine whether any files point to it
  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the ROOT folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder Content
  • Hit Enter
  • Move all .htm files (except index.htm) into the Content folder. To select multiple files, hold the Apple key down and click on the files on the Mac, hold the Control key down and click on the files on the PC
  • A list of files to be updated appears
  • Click Update


  • Select the images folder
  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on it and choose Edit | Rename
  • Rename the images folder to Assets
  • A list of files to be updated appears
  • Click Update
  • Click on the + icon to expand the Assets folder
  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the Assets folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder Fireworks
  • Hit Enter

  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the Assets folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder Buttons
  • Hit Enter

  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the Assets folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder Images
  • Hit Enter

  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the Assets folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder Media_Clips
  • Hit Enter

  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the Assets folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder PDF_Files
  • Hit Enter

  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the Assets folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder Misc
  • Hit Enter

  • Right-click (Ctrl - Click for Mac) on the Assets folder and choose New Folder
  • Name the new folder Archive
  • Hit Enter


  • Drag all files inside the Assets folder which start with site_ to the Buttons folder
  • Click Update
  • Click the - icon to the left of the Buttons folder to collapse it

  • Drag site.png to the Fireworks folder
  • Move the remaining images to the Images folder
  • Click Update to update links

  • Choose Site | Recreate Site Cache (pc) or Site | Advanced | Recreate Site Cache (mac)
  • Choose Site | Check Links Sitewide
  • Under Broken Links, a broken link to registration.htm should be listed
  • Click on the Folder to the right of the broken link
  • Location register.htm and click Open
  • Press Enter to update the link
  • Under the Show menu, choose External Links
  • Select the mailto:fake@fake.com external link
  • Change the link to
    mailto:academictech@doit.wisc.edu
    and press Enter
  • Select YES to fix the remaining links to this address
  • Under the Show menu, choose Orphaned Files
  • Delete site_.gif and site_over.gif
  • From the Site window, move Angela.jpg and Jamie.jpg, located in the Assets / Images folder, into the Assets | Archive folder. Leave Basil.jpg in its current location
  • Close Results window

  • Open SSC_Template.dwt file found in the Templates folder
  • Click on the header image
  • Select the TABLE tag by using the Tag Selector
  • In the Properties window, there is a Fireworks Src box
  • Click and drag the Point to File icon to Assets | Fireworks | site.png
  • Click the Fireworks Edit button. This launches Fireworks and loads the editable PNG file
  • Click Hide Slices
  • Select the UW - MADISON text
  • Change the color to # 99FF00

  • Double-click the Our Mission button.
  • Click on the Over tab
  • Select the text and change the color to #99FF00
  • Click Done
  • Select the Preview tab. Rollover the buttons and notice that all the buttons have been updated
  • Click Done
  • Choose File | Close

  • Select the Manage site definition and click Edit
  • Select Remote Info category

  • Return to the Site Files window
  • Click the Synchronize icon
  • Choose Put Newer Files to Remote Server
  • Choose Delete Remote Files Not on Local Drive
  • Click Preview
  • Click OK to update files
  • Click OK to delete files
  • Click Close
  • File remote site is now synchronized with the local drive
