PowerPoint Presentations on the Web

Putting your PowerPoint lecture materials on the web can be accomplished through a variety of software applications.  Depending on the software selected, your lecture slides can include audio narration, animation, video and even interactivity.
We've tested tools for under $700 and evaluated twelve popular applications that faculty can use to convert PowerPoint slides into a web format for students. Use this resource to help select an application that best meets your needs.

The Products We Reviewed and Tested

The twelve products we tested differ widely in how they convert PowerPoint slides into a web format.  Some products generate Flash files, while others create streaming or progressive downlaod slide shows with synchronized narration.  When selecting an application you'll need to be clear on how you want students to view and use your PowerPoint slides on the web.

Narrative tools allow instructors to include audio and/or video in their PowerPoint presentations. This is often used in a completely online course. Narrative tools can also produce Non-Narrative (no audio) Presentations. Click here for the Narrative Tools comparative product evaluation.

Comparison Chart of Non-Narrative Tools

Non-Narrative tools allow instructors to provide PowerPoint text and images as instructional supplements. Depending on the tool, animations and short videos can be included. Click here for the Non-Narrative Tools comparative product evaluation.
