Computer Enhanced Classroom

Instructional staff who need to reserve a room that has the technical capabilities for displaying multimedia presentations, websites, or other computerized applications may do so.

The following procedure will help faculty and instructional staff obtain a room with technology. This is a standard procedure for any room reservation, but with specific directions to guide faculty in reserving rooms whereby a data projector (projects what is on a computer to a screen) and/or network capabilities are needed. With technology becoming more integrated with teaching,, faculty demands for such facilities are on the increase.

Keep the following in mind:

  • Communicating with your Timetable rep for your department will be one of the more important steps.
  • Reserving a room occurs one year prior to teaching the class.
  • Priority for a given classroom is based upon the following in this order:
    1. Technology (equipment) that is needed,
    2. Location--local departments get local classrooms
    3. Class size

Note: Departments are expected to distribute day patterns (MWF vs TR) and enrollments throughout the day.

Steps for Reserving a "TECH" Classroom

  1. Contact your timetable representative; they may know exactly what type and which rooms your course requires.
  2. Check out classrooms attributes at http://www.fpm.wisc.edu/support/Classrooms/Attributes.htm. This website gives you the following information: Network capabilities, dedicated video, computer
capacity, display device and in some cases a picture of the room. Not all classrooms are listed here. You can also search by building at http://www.fpm.wisc.edu/support/Classrooms/classroomlist.htm.
  3. The following website even has instructions on how to use document cameras , wireless microphones, and slide projectors. http://www.fpm.wisc.edu/support/Instructions/instructionmanuals.htm. All web sites above are from CLASSROOM MEDIA SUPPORT.
  4. Specify to your timetable rep the following:
    • Room characteristics needed.(space feature codes)
    • Computer projection is code 11
    • Network (Active Data Jack) is code 13
    • The more you can communicate your needs to the timetable representative, the better.

Please refer to Classroom Scheduling Policies, October 2000 for further information http://www.fpm.wisc.edu/support/SchedulingPolicy.htm
