step one: creating a connection

  1. Launch Contribute
  2. Click Create new Website connection.
  3. Click Continue
  4. From What do you want to connect to? menu, choose web site
  5. In the What is the web address (URL) of your web site box, enter:
    https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/groups/wds/site_XX/
  6. Click Continue / Next
  7. From How do you connect to your web server? menu, choose, WebDAV
  8. In the What is the WebDAV URL? box, enter:
    https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/groups/wds/site_XX/
  9. In the What is the WebDAV Username? box, enter your NetID
  10. In the What is the WebDAV Password? box, enter your NetID password
  11. Click Continue / Next
  12. In the What is your full name? box, enter first and last name
  13. In the What is your e-mail address? box, enter UW Madison email address
  14. Click Continue / Next
  15. Click Finish / Done

step two: administering the web site

  1. Choose Edit | Administer Websites (pc) or Contribute | Administer Websites (mac) , then select the site UW Madison Science Support Center
  2. Choose Dreamweaver-style editing as the method in which user edit pages
  3. Choose Yes to become administrator of this site

  4. Under Users and Roles, choose Writer and click Remove
  5. Click Yes to delete
  6. Under Users and Roles, choose Publisher
  7. Choose Edit Role Settings

  8. Under Folder/File Access, click Only allow editing within these folders
  9. Click OK
  10. Click Add Folder
  11. Double-click on Content folder and click Select "Content" button
  12. Click Add Folder
  13. Double-click on Assets folder and click Select "Assets" button
  14. Select the /CSS/ folder reference and click Remove
  15. Click Yes
  16. Check Allow users to delete files they have permission to edit and Remove rollback versions on delete under File Deletion

  17. Under Editing | Other editing option, choose Require ALT text for images

  18. Under Styles and Fonts, choose Show only CSS styles included in this CSS file: and click Choose
  19. Location ssc.css and click OK
  20. Under Styles and Fonts, deselect Allow users to apply fonts and sizes and Allow users to apply font color and background color

  21. Under New Pages, deselect Create a blank page, User built-in starter pages and Create a new page by copying any page on the web site
  22. Select Use Dreamweaver templates and Show users all templates

  23. Under File Placement, choose All images and click Edit
  24. Click Specific folder on your web site and click Choose
  25. Click OK
  26. Browse to Assets | Images and click Select "Images" button
  27. Click OK
  28. Under File Placement, choose All Microsoft and PDF files and click Edit
  29. Choose Specify folder on your web site and click Choose
  30. Click OK
  31. Browse to Assets | PDF_Files and select Select "PDF_Files" button
  32. Click OK
  33. Under File Placement, choose all other files, click Edit
  34. Choose Specify folder on your web site and click Choose
  35. Click OK
  36. Choose Misc folder and select Select "Misc" button
  37. Click OK
  38. Under File Placement, click Add
  39. Enter .mov .rm .ram .wmv .swf under File Extensions
  40. Choose Specify folder on your web site and click Choose
  41. Click OK
  42. Browse to Assets | Media_Clips folder, select Select "Media_Clips" button and click OK
  43. Under File Placement, click Add. enter .htm .html under File Extensions
  44. Choose Specify folder on your web site and click Choose
  45. Click OK
  46. Browse to Content folder, select Select "Content" button and click OK

  47. Under Shared Assets, click Add | Library Item
  48. Click Select all files in folder then click OK
  49. Click Lock item on page box, then OK
  50. Under Shared Assets, click Add | Image
  51. Navigate to Assets | Images folder
  52. Click Select all Files in Folder and click OK
  53. Enter ALT tags for each image and click OK

  54. Click on New Images
  55. Enter 300 pixels in the Max Width box
  56. Click OK.

  57. Under Users and Roles, choose Send Connection Key
  58. Choose Yes radio button to send your current connection settings
  59. Click Continue / Next

  60. Choose Publisher role
  61. Click Continue / Next

  62. Choose Save to Local Machine
  63. Enter SSC as the password
  64. Click Continue / Next

  65. Click Finish / Done
  66. In the Save As: box: type User.stc
  67. In the Where: box, choose Desktop
  68. Click Save

  69. Under Users and Roles, choose Administrator then choose Send Connection Key.
  70. Choose Yes radio button to include connection settings
  71. Click Continue / Next

  72. Choose Administrator role
  73. Click Continue / Next

  74. Choose Save to Local Machine
  75. Enter SSC as the password
  76. Click Continue / Next

  77. Click Finish / Done
  78. In the Save As: box: type Admin.stc
  79. In the Where: box, choose Desktop
  80. Click Save
  81. Save Key to the Desktop
  82. Click Close
  83. Choose Yes to leave administrative password empty
  84. Quit Contribute

step three: editing a page

  1. Double-click on the User.stc Contribute key found on the Desktop
  2. Click Yes to replace the connection
  3. Enter ssc as the password
  4. Enter your NetID and password.
  5. Click on Our Staff button
  6. Click OK
  7. Click Edit Page button

step four: entering text

  1. Scroll down to the bottom of the page
  2. Place the cursor at the end of the last line of Carson Rodell's staff description
  3. Press the Enter twice
  4. Type Basil Ellis, Technology Trainer and press Enter
  5. Type the following description:


    Basil Ellis helps students learn the computer technologies used in the various Biology and Chemistry courses. He graduated from the University of Florida with an M.S. degree in Computer Science. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his friends, playing his guitar, and listening to music. email: bellis@wisc.edu

  6. Select the words Basil Ellis, Technology Trainer and choose Heading 2 from the Style menu
  7. Select the paragraph text and choose Normal from the Style menu

step five: inserting an image

  1. Place cursor at the beginning of the paragraph on Basil
  2. Choose Insert | Image, then choose From Shared Assets
  3. Choose Basil and click OK
  4. Choose Format | Image Properties
  5. Choose Left for the Alignment
  6. Enter 1 pixel for the Border
  7. Enter 5 pixels for the Horizontal Padding
  8. Click OK

  1. Select University of Florida from the paragraph
  2. Click on Link button and choose Browse to Web Page
  3. Enter http://www.ufl.edu/ in the Web address (URL): box.
  4. Click on the arrow to the left of Advanced options to expand the window
  5. Choose New Window from the Target frame menu
  6. Click OK
  7. Select bellis@wisc.edu
  8. Click on the Link button and choose E-mail address
  9. Enter bellis@wisc.edu in the E-mail address: box

  7. Choose SSC - Our Staff from the Select a page to link to: box
  8. Choose basil from the Section anchor menu under Advanced options

  2. Choose Insert | Image, then choose From Shared Assets
  3. Choose Tutors and click OK


step eleven: entering content

  1. Type Peer Tutors and press Enter
  2. Click the Bullet button to create a bulleted list
  3. Enter the following people and area of studies:


    • Stephanie Delzell - Biochemistry
    • David Rak - Chemistry
    • Karen Wilson - Biology
    • Liz Reishus - Biology
    • Lee Ziegler - Biochemistry
    • Roy Berridge - Molecular Biology
    • Sean Moynan - Chemistry

step twelve: inserting library objects

  1. End the bulleted list by pressing Enter after the last entry and clicking the Bullet icon again
  2. Choose Insert | Shared Assets. Choose Library items from the Show menu. Choose footer and click OK
  3. Select the Peer Tutors heading and choose Heading 2 from the format menu
  4. Click Publish
  5. Click Yes to publish the page without first creating a link to this page from another page
  6. The page will be saved in the Content folder, as specified in the File Placement rules that were established in the Administration section
  7. The file should be saved as peertutors.htm
  8. Click Publish to accept this location

step thirteen: linking to existing pages

  1. From the SSC homepage, click on the Our Tutors button
  2. Click on Edit Page button
  3. Select the phrase tutor/mentors from the first sentence of the second paragraph
  4. Choose Link | Drafts and Recent Pages
  5. Choose peer tutors from the Select a page to link to: box
  6. Click OK
  7. Click Publish
