Wisconsin Speech Chain On-line (WɪSCO) is an interactive, web-based tool that plots linguistic data. It allows for the import, management and visualization of speech data, and includes pedagogical tools as a real-time homework submission and instructor feedback function. Originally developed to help novice students in beginning phonetics courses quickly master acoustic analysis of vowels, WɪSCO use has been expanded as a research tool and for use in courses on dialects, variation and change, and historical linguistics.

Continued development of WɪSCO is expanding it to include mapping so users can explore speaker locations and speech sounds in a spatial context, as an overlay with geographic and demographic data. With this tool, researchers and students will be able to map correlations across a broad set of linguistic and social variables.
